Senior Theatre Practitioner: Scrub / Anaesthetics / Recovery

The Cherwell Hospital, Banbury

Full-Time, 37.5 Hours

The Role:

We have an exciting opportunity for applicants from enthusiastic individuals to work within our busy theatre complex as a Senior Operating Department Practitioner / Registered Nurse. We are looking for a professional and motivated person to support the smooth running of the Theatre Department. You will be expected to deliver high standards of perioperative care and have the ability to support and develop your own skills and facilitate / support and develop the team to provide excellent patient care within the department. We require applicants to have excellent scrub experience within elective orthopaedic and or ophthalmology or experience within anaesthetics and recovery.

Senior Theatre Practitioners will need to take responsibility for the smooth running of the operating list / recovery room supporting the team in their area of expertise. They will be required to communicate using a range of methods, ensuring that all relevant information about patients is communicated to the wider team to ensure the safe and effective delivery of care to patients. Where you'll be based:

The Cherwell Hospital was purpose built in 2006 and has been designed to combine an exceptional standard of patient accommodation with the technical equipment and facilities that modern medicine demands.  It is a 40-bed inpatient unit and day-case facility predominantly specialising in Orthopaedic and Ophthalmology Surgery.  The theatre suite has 3 laminar air flow theatres and a purpose built ophthalmology suite facilitating cataract and glaucoma surgery.

The Cherwell Hospital is part of the Ramsay Health Care group and provides clinical care to private, insured and NHS patients. 

What you’ll bring with you:

  • Professional NMC/HCPC registration

  • Extensive experience in elective orthopaedic and / or Ophthalmology as a scrub practitioner and / or anaesthetics and recovery.

  • Proven ability to lead a team.

  • Proven ability to problem solve.

  • Proven ability to work effectively under pressure.

  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently

  • Able to influence other team members.

  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently.

  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills when dealing with difficult situations

  • Demonstrable evidence of Teaching and Assessing in the last twelve month period.

  • Assist the senior team with the management of the theatre or area, including the     supervision of junior staff

  • Supervise the professional work of junior members of the theatre team

  • Exercise professional accountability and recognized the implications of decisions taken

  • Reflect on clinical practice in order to evaluate and maintain high standards of patient care

  • Surgical First Assist Qualification (SFA) would be desirable, but not essential

  • Flexible and positive attitude
