Clinical skills
General Ophthalmic Clinics
o All tasks, duties and responsibilities performed by band 3 ophthalmic technicians in doctor led clinics are continue to be expected.
Independently managing patient flow and quality assurance in virtual review imaging clinics

o Assessment of visual acuity of patients using LogMAR computerised tests.
o Instillation of eye drops as prescribed by the Doctor or protocol to prepare the patient for further ophthalmic examination.
o Assist transfer of patients of limited mobility to examination chair and support ophthalmologist during assessment as necessary.
o Produce high quality ophthalmic images and scans.
o Ensuring clinics run to time as much as possible - alerting patients of any delays, and seeking help if required
o Giving advice to patients as instructed by senior staff or by ophthalmologist.
Administrative Duties

o Review medical/ophthalmic history prior to clinic and ensure clinic list is signed for drops
o Fully compliant with Patient Administration Systems (PAS), Independently managing patient flow and quality assurance in virtual review imaging clinics

o Assessment of visual acuity of patients using LogMAR computerised tests.
o Instillation of eye drops as prescribed by the Doctor or protocol to prepare the patient for further ophthalmic examination.
o Assist transfer of patients of limited mobility to examination chair and support ophthalmologist during assessment as necessary.
o Produce high quality ophthalmic images and scans.
o Ensuring clinics run to time as much as possible - alerting patients of any delays, and seeking help if required
o Giving advice to patients as instructed by senior staff or by ophthalmologist.

The ability to converse easily and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for all customer facing roles.
Most positions require a Disclosure and Barring check and will be exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Posts working regularly or unsupervised with children or vulnerable adults require an enhanced check.
Applicants for eligible roles requiring Tier 2 sponsorship must meet UK Visas and Immigration eligibility criteria.

An opportunity has arisen to work as a member of the East Kent Optometric Services team supporting ophthalmology across 6 different hospital sites. We are a friendly, hardworking and supportive team who get together virtually at least once a month for a team meeting. We support the medical retina/AMD/diabetes service, urgent eye service, the glaucoma service, the cornea service, the paediatric and orthoptic services along with managing the contact lens service and low vision service.
The post will involve managing patients in glaucoma and diabetic imaging clinics, face to face work ups and imaging, working within a multidisciplinary team for the benefit of our patients. Our clinics generally run Monday to Friday between 8am and 6pm but at some sites we also have evening and weekend clinics., We are one of the largest hospital trusts in England, with five hospitals and community clinics serving a local population of around 800,000 people.
