Full Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to be an integral part of the National FGM Centre. Having a UK wide remit, you will lead on supporting the objectives of the National FGM Centre. The National FGM Centre works with professionals and in communities to educate and prevent Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), breast flattening, and child abuse linked to faith or belief (CALFB) as well as other forms of harmful practices. It was established in 2015 to achieve system change in the provision of services for children and their families who are affected by FGM. In 2017, the focus of our work was extended to include Breast Flattening and Child Abuse Linked to Faith or Belief. The aim is to prevent new cases, protect children and young people, support those affected by FGM and other harmful practices, partner to deliver services and learn. As The National FGM Centre aims to diversify its reach, the Centre has submitted an application to MOPAC. Funding will be used to develop a Harmful Practices Network, with the NFGMC leading a consortium of By and For Grass Roots organisations across London between April 2024-March 2026. Social work qualified, you will have extensive post qualification experience of working across a range of cases, from early help to complex child protection. You will have experience working in a multi-agency environment dealing with a wide range of cases including child protection assessments and court cases. Specialist training to build knowledge will be provided. As a social worker, you will work on the harmful practices Support Hub, a unique virtual platform for professionals and victims/survivors/witnesses to access, where you will give expert advice/guidance/signposting or referral into specialist programmes provided by the Network. You will also deliver training, and occasionally undertake child protection risk assessments.
