Full Job Description

We are pleased to be able to advertise for a dynamic Physiotherapist with ICU knowledge and experience to join our team as a Team Lead. The post will operate across the OUH's Oxford Critical Care unit (a general ICU) and the Churchill Intensive Care unit (a predominantly surgical ICU) which will lead to a varied clinical caseload. The OUH is a major trauma centre as well as a site for several tertiary specialist services. Day to day work will involve looking after patients unique to a large University teaching hospital, for example complex polytrauma, major cancer surgery or amputee's. The Physiotherapy team forms part of an AHP workforce also consisting of Dieticians, a Speech and Language Therapist and Occupational Therapists. The Physiotherapy team consists of 10.0WTE staff, from Junior rotational Physio's through to an Advanced Clinical Practitioner. The post holder will hold line management, operational and governance responsibilities as part of their role, and will be able to enjoy the support from a Leadership team consisting of the Clinical Lead Therapist, ACP and 4 other Team Lead Physiotherapists. The ideal candidate will have sound ICU knowledge, skills and experience alongside some experience in supporting the learning, development and wellbeing of others, improvement work and line management responsibility. They will be adaptable, willing to learn on the job and be eager to contribute to the development of the team and broader Therapies service at the OUH,

  • Responsible for operational management of the AICU & CICU Physiotherapy service, and assisting with the operational management of the wider Adult Critical Care workstream.
  • Use expert knowledge and skills to contribute to strategic planning and development of the physiotherapy service for AICU & CICU.
  • Use expert clinical reasoning skills to provide specialist support and advice to the AICU & CICU MDT.
  • Maintain a clinical caseload of highly complex patients as an autonomous practitioner on AICU & CICU.
  • Responsible for maintaining and improving all aspects of evidence based practice and quality assurance in the AICU & CICU Physiotherapy Team
  • Takes the lead in maintaining and developing evidence based practice in cardiorespiratory care within the Trust in conjunction with the other respiratory team leaders..
  • Supervise, initiate and participate in evidence based projects and is responsible for implementing changes within AICU & CICU, and the setting and monitoring standards of practice.
  • Contribute to cardiorespiratory care services development across the Trust.
  • Represent physiotherapy at relevant Critical Care networks within the Trust and the Thames Valley Health Authority as an alternate.
  • To liaise with the adult critical care team leaders with regard to provision of critical care across the Trust sites.
