Full Job Description

  • Act as an expert clinical resource to support staff looking after patients on the cohort wards with tracheostomy and laryngectomies.
  • Provide exceptional patient care which is underpinned by evidence based practice and OUH values.
  • Work in partnership with ward staff to ensure the patients' family and friends are actively involved in the caring process on behalf of the patient.
  • Work alongside clinical staff to support and assess the development of tracheostomy specialist clinical skills using the Trust competency framework.
  • Develop and maintain specialist knowledge of nursing practice relevant to the clinical area.
  • To actively participate and report to the Tracheostomy Management Group with a focus on education and competency development and its implementation.
  • To provide a high quality specialist education programme for staff working on tracheostomy cohort wards
  • Communicate effective information to patients/relatives/carers/ and all members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • To promote a positive and creative culture of learning and staff development within practice areas.
  • Undertake the responsibilities associated with being a specialist nurse.
  • Demonstrably contribute towards the continuing development of professional nursing practice in the department.
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner and be a role model to others at all times commensurate with The Code (NMC 2015)., The attached job description outlines the core requirements expected of a Band 7 Specialist Nurse.
