Full Job Description

The post holder would work within the orthopaedic department under the supervision of one of the existing 17 Consultants.
The post holder would gain clinical and operative experience in in both elective orthopaedics and trauma surgery. They would be expected to join the on-call rota 1 in 11 with the existing registrar body. They would participate in ward rounds, outpatient clinics (fracture and elective) and operating lists in conjunction with a supervising consultant, and independently where appropriate.
Interviews will take place W/C 18th November., It is anticipated that the successful applicant will have experience in aspects of elective orthopaedic surgery as well as trauma surgery. They will participate in operating lists, elective clinics and ward duties to help provide a service in the management of elective orthopaedic patients., The post holder, in conjunction with consultant and senior colleagues, will be expected to play a full part in the out-of-hours on-call service and associated trauma. They will participate in trauma lists, fracture clinics and ward duties to help provide a service in the management of orthopaedic trauma patients.
In addition to clinical commitments the successful applicant would be expected to participate in the training of other junior trainees. There are plenty of teaching
opportunities within the department to lead or engage in. The post holder will take part in the teaching of junior medical and nursing staff and students during theatre sessions/clinics and participate in postgraduate teaching meetings.
The post holder will be expected to actively engage in the trust's clinical governance and be required to participate in audit. There will be opportunity to participate in managerial or service improvement projects to improve the efficiency, quality or patient experience within the department.
The post holder will be expected to take an active part in the research programme of the Trust and the region. We have access to the MATTU facility for additional research and teaching.
The successful applicant will be responsible for the self-development of skills and competencies through participation in learning and development activities, and to maintain up to date technical and professional knowledge relevant to the post.
The post holder will agree to observe the Trust's agreed policies and procedures and collaborate with colleagues, furthering the interests and reputation of the orthopaedic department and the hospital.
