Full Job Description

The post holder will be 1 of 5 doctors covering the Palliative Medicine ward. There are 3 GP trainees, a specialty doctor and a specialty trainee in Palliative Medicine. We would expect the post holder to manage the day to day medical care of patients on the hospice ward. There are daily handovers and Consultant led ward rounds. The post holder will be expected to review patients independently some of the time.

The post holder will be expected to attend regular teaching sessions within the department and wider directorate. In addition there are opportunities to perform and attend departmental audit and morbidity/mortality meetings.

The post holder will be based at Sobell House Hospice at the Churchill hospital, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Sobell House is an NHS Specialist Palliative Care Service which provides 18 inpatient beds for patients with terminal illnesses in Oxfordshire requiring intensive symptom control or end of life care. The unit is an integral part of the Oncology Directorate within the Surgery and Oncology Division in Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Sobell House has served the community of Oxfordshire for over 40 years.

The post holder will be supported by a highly skilled and knowledgeable Multi-Disciplinary Team. Members of the multidisciplinary team who work in the hospice include nurses, allied health professionals, music therapist, art therapist, chaplain, social workers and support staff including volunteers. We have sessional support from a consultant psychiatrist.

The post is for 6 months with the potential to extend., Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the country.
