Full Job Description
Our new Woodlands Officer role offers a unique opportunity to work in one of the most naturally beautiful parts of the UK; a designated World Heritage site. You will be part of an experienced and dedicated Property Team managing the 530 Ha of trees and woodlands across the Lake District, with rich and diverse species as well as ancient semi-natural woodland, offering the right candidate the opportunity to bring their own ideas and vision to this special place. You will work across a broad spectrum of services within the Authority, liaising between rangers, strategists and the wider community to bring about positive management of these special assets.
Are you passionate about trees and woodlands? Have you a desire to protecting special places and creating amazing woodland experiences whilst helping build sustainable and healthy forests in a World Heritage Site? If you have experience in designing and delivering woodlands management plans and are familiar with managing woodlands for recreation, commercially or just to ensure that they are sustainably managed for the next generation, then we would love to hear from you., You should have a background in woodland management and a relevant qualification in this field and be able to demonstrate membership of a relevant professional body. You will be experienced at managing and working with a range of stakeholders. You should have an understanding of recreational, economic, environmental and social value of woodlands. It will be useful to have a comprehensive understanding in the management of woodland and the associated legislation surrounding them, along with knowledge of national and regional policies and regulatory environment as they affect woodlands. Working within the Lake District National Park you will need a strong commitment to the concept and importance of protected landscapes. You will be responsible for managing woodlands in a variety of settings, including for risk, Health and Safety and public access. Acting as the lead on woodland management plan creation and applications, financial and habitat outcomes from the management and delivery of woodland management plans. Your role will involve working in partnerships with external stakeholders and in multi-disciplinary teams to achieve shared objectives. You'll be used to managing contractors and other delivery operatives, to deliver practical works as well as being capable of undertaking some practical works yourself.
