Full Job Description
Our Legal 500 and Chambers-rated Public Procurement team is expanding, and we are looking for a Public Procurement Disputes Associate to join us in our newly refurbished Birmingham office. This is a fantastic opportunity for an Associate with 3+ years PQE to provide expertise and client support on a wide variety of public procurement disputes across multiple sectors, including health and social care, housing, local government, and charity clients. The team is integral to the wider Projects Department, offering a supportive and collegiate environment where you'll have the opportunity to work with both long-term and new clients. This role offers excellent growth prospects, flexibility, and the chance to make a real impact within a dynamic and forward-thinking team.,
- Provide expert advice on procurement disputes, focusing on issues across sectors such as health and social care, housing, local government, and charity.
- Progressing litigation matters in compliance with the Civil Procedure Rules, with ongoing consideration of merits and opportunities for settlement.
- Handle a wide range of dispute instructions, both short-term and long-term, with opportunities to work on new and ongoing client matters.
- Work collaboratively with the wider Projects Department to deliver joined-up legal services.
- Support clients with training and general advisory work, particularly related to the Procurement Act 2023.
- Assist in supervising and mentoring junior lawyers within the team.
- Contribute to the continued growth and development of the team, working on both contentious and non-contentious matters.
- If desired, support with business development activities to support ongoing growth and profile of the team and disputes work undertaken.
We are looking for a candidate with solid experience in public procurement dispute work and a genuine interest in working within our specialist sectors. The ideal applicant will have a proven track record of managing procurement disputes from initial advisory stages through to settlement or judgment. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to grow and develop within a supportive and collaborative team. They will also enjoy taking on responsibility and mentoring junior team members while developing their own career within a growing and dynamic practice. There is the opportunity to undertake some non-contentious work if desired and as required. Experience and Skills: - 3+ years PQE with experience in procurement dispute work (desirable).
- Experience of advising on disputes and progressing litigation under the Public Contracts Regulations 2015 and have a good grasp of the Procurement Act 2023. Experience of advising clients under the Provider Selection Regime is desirable but not essential.
- A good understanding of the full lifecycle of procurement disputes, from initial advice through to resolution.
- Experience working with clients across sectors such as health and social care, housing, local government, and charities.
- Ability to work both independently with support as appropriate from more senior colleagues and as part of a team on larger, more complex matters.
- Strong communication skills, particularly the ability to explain complex legal issues to non-legal professionals.
- An interest in providing training and support to clients, especially in relation to the Procurement Act 2023.
- Desire to help manage and supervise junior lawyers within the team.
