Full Job Description

You will use your knowledge and skills as a Biomedical Scientist in our team at Singleton Hospital to perform routine screening and diagnostic infectious serology as well as routine molecular diagnostics., This post would suit candidates that have proven Microbiology laboratory experience and associated work based education and competency or a science graduate. The successful candidates will have the opportunity to rotate through a number of sections during their employment, gaining experience in a number of methodologies to include molecular science and microbiological diagnostic testing.
The laboratory is an IBMS approved training laboratory. The Public Health Wales, Microbiology network is ISO 15189 accredited. An understanding of good laboratory practice and ISO15189 quality management is essential.
To ensure that the laboratory can provide a 24/7 acute service, the post holder will be expected to participate in unsocial hours working (weekend/Bank Holiday/on call) as per published roster.

Public Heath Wales Microbiology operates as a network of laboratories with regional laboratories across Wales.

To work in the UK, all candidates who are not UK or Republic of Ireland (RoI) nationals require sponsorship to obtain either a Health and Care visa or Skilled Worker visa, unless you have permission to work via another route. Non UK / RoI candidates wishing to apply should self-assess the likelihood of obtaining a Certificate of Sponsorship by visiting Work in the UK. The salary scale shown is for a full-time member of staff, with the amount being adjusted pro rata for those working less than 37.5 hours per week.
In general, anyone joining our Trust who has not previously worked in the NHS will, by default, start on the first point of the advertised pay band. Pay progression will then be determined by annual Performance and Development Reviews in accordance with the NHS Wales Pay Progression Policy. An application for Incremental Credit may be considered, but can only be awarded based on evidenced, reckonable service and/or equivalent, relevant experience.
