Full Job Description

This is a non-training position in the Department of Paediatric Surgery for a period of 12 months subject to a probationary period of 3 months. The responsibilities of the post holder are similar to one of our registrar training post covering General Surgery.
The middle grade team (Registrar level) comprises of 4 NTNs and 3-4 clinical fellows. The Fellow posts are fully funded by the Trust and do not have formal educational approval. However every effort will be made to ensure that the holder of these posts will have opportunities to participate in clinical activities, formal teaching sessions, audit, and research.
This post is Suitable for Secondment., This post allows the candidate to join a very busy centre offering exposure to neonatal surgery, GI surgery and urology, and Paediatric trauma. There are excellent opportunities to be involved in academic work in the several research projects being run in the dept.
It is one of the largest Paediatric Gastro-Surgery services in the UK, which is closely associated with the adult gastro- intestinal surgical dept and the GI physiology labs. The Paediatric Surgery dept comprises of 5 surgeons, two of whom will practice Paediatric Urology and three will provide the GI service, all will take part in the on call rota for neonates and other emergencies.
At present, Mr Phelps, Mr Cleeve and Mr Charlesworth are the Paediatric GI surgeons; they look after patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease jointly with the Paediatric gastroenterologists. They also provide a service for the children with Gastro-oesophageal Reflux or feeding problems requiring fundoplications and or gastrostomies/jejunostomies. The department of Adult Gastroenterology has an international reputation in the investigation of Motility Disorders and close collaboration exists with them. There are plans for the Paediatric Surgical Service to become more involved in the investigation and management of children with Motility Disorders. Mr Misra and Mrs Ashwini Joshi provide a Paediatric Urology service for the region.
