Full Job Description

As a member of the Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team within Cloud you would contribute to the delivery of core cloud services delivered within SSE, the primary objectives are to help teams across the organisation adopt our cloud platform, providing best practice information and support; and to help improve our services through monitoring & automation. The role will provide the opportunity to be part of SSE's digital transformation and Cloud migration journey, ensuring the platform achieves the target standards of efficiency, resilience and availability required by the organisation.

This role focuses on the core cloud platform and associated infrastructure and will give the right candidate the opportunity to contribute to infrastructure projects across a variety of services and cloud platforms.

As a team player, you will work closely with a team of strategists, architects, and engineers to craft technical solutions that in turn accelerate our business, and this role focusses on working to:

- Identify and progress opportunities to contribute to continuous improvement across the team, delivery, and operational practices.

- Collaborate to reduce operational risk within the core cloud platform.

- Partner with Product owners and management to manage and clearly articulate demand planning and delivery against the projected backlog and book of work.

- Provide support and best practice guidance for application teams on adopting our platforms.

Understanding of either Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure and Cloud Native Architectures is essential. A Cloud Certification in either Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure is desirable, but not essential.

- Knowledge of Operating Systems (Windows and/or Linux) is desirable, but not essential.

- Strong analytical skills and a solid understanding of operational support procedures.

- Ability to write software scripts in at least one general-purpose programming language (Bash, PowerShell, Python) or develop automation in one configuration tool (Ansible, Puppet, Chef).

- Strong communication skills to be able to collaborate with teams across the organisation to help support SSE's cloud adoption.
