Our team of award-winning journalists, cutting-edge commercial professionals, and industry-leading digital experts are committed to making a difference and represent a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives. We offer a challenging and exciting environment for career development, with a focus on training, growth and fostering an inclusive culture. We're looking for a Data Platform Architect to play a critical role in designing, implementing, and managing our data management infrastructure, ensuring it supports our strategic goals and operational needs. You'll provide technical leadership of our data platform and data architecture. We see data as an asset that is critical for informing our business and driving performance. Data supports all areas of operations: informing our editors choices; supporting advertising revenue; and supporting our reader revenue teams to acquire more supporters and increase revenue per supporter. About the Role

  • Evolve our existing GCP-based data platform architecture to meet strategic goals
  • Develop and maintain a scalable, robust, and secure data architecture encompassing all source system data, the Lakehouse and the consumption layer.
  • Defining the data architecture security and access requirements to be embedded.
  • Lead the efforts on developing a complete and robust logical data model that can be deployed on the Lakehouse to enable stakeholders to derive the maximum value from myriad data sources.
  • Define the methodology used to integrate data from various internal and external sources
  • Collaborate with the existing governance team to ensure they have the tools and support needed to uphold data governance policies and standards.
  • Support data analytics and business intelligence efforts by ensuring data accessibility and reliability through business intelligence tools.
  • Provide leadership mentoring and guidance for existing data platform engineers

Extensive, demonstrable experience as a Data Architect with a track record of working with data lake and data warehouse environments specifically in the cloud
  • Expert knowledge of modern data stack in particular Google Cloud Storage (GCS), Google BigQuery (GBQ), Airflow and DBT or similar technologies for designing data ingestion/reporting, transformations, optimisations and middleware interoperability
  • Demonstrated ability to assess needs of the relevant internal teams, creatively approach solutions, decide and influence appropriate courses of action
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical ideas in easy to understand business terms
  • We value and respect all differences (seen and unseen) in all people. We aspire to have inclusive working experiences and an environment that reflects the audience we serve, where our people have equal access to career development opportunities, their voices are heard and can contribute to our future. We actively encourage applications from people of all backgrounds. Many of our staff work flexibly and we will consider all requests for flexible working arrangements. We're operating in a hybrid working model with a mix of office based and remote based work. You'll be expected to come into our London office 3 days a week.
