DHSC is responsible for ensuring the system consistently delivers a high standard of care, and secures the best possible value for money from over £160bn of taxpayers funds allocated by Parliament. The finance function plays a crucial role in enabling the Department to fulfil its strategic objectives.
This role is in the Finance Operations team, which is responsible for delivery of the critical finance functions for the department, including maintaining and developing finance systems and business intelligence and working alongside colleagues responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, expenses, supplier maintenance, cash, transparency reporting, tax and buying coordinator requisitioning.
The role itself is focused on our finance systems and on building our capability in data visualisation and analysis. We are ambitious in our aim to innovate, take advantage of a range of emerging technologies and drive creative change to benefit our stakeholders.
This is an excellent opportunity to deliver analytics, systems and automation to innovate within a finance environment, you will build a diverse portfolio in a highly supportive team that is central to DHSCs operational delivery strategy., The role will require leadership of the development of new data analytical products and managing existing systems. Close liaison with stakeholders will be vital to deliver innovative solutions.
The postholder will lead and manage the delivery of data, automation and analysis. Working closely with colleagues responsible for systems and data, maintaining delivery of current products and creating innovative solutions including the use of data visualisation.
The postholder will demonstrate a highly customer-focussed approach, with clear stakeholder benefits being forefront to team outputs. Understanding and reflecting customer requirements is central to the team's approach. Because of this, effective communication and collaboration are core skills required for the role.
Responsibilities include oversight of established systems with the opportunity to contribute to the management of external suppliers, and the inception of new, internally-delivered data and analysis products developed through close liaison with stakeholders.
This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of the delivery of multiple projects to develop and improve the Departments finance systems and use of data analysis, working closely with stakeholders across the finance function, the wider department and across government.
The finance function also offers multiple learning and development opportunities, including options to study for financial qualifications and leadership development programmes.

Oversee coordination of change / maintenance to our ERP platform via a third party supplier. Note that this is a highly collaborative area of work, a collective DHSC operations effort, in which you will represent the Finance team's interests.
Oversight of Business Analysis activity to understand customer requirements and design innovative digital and analytical solutions.
Innovation, bring new ideas to data, analysis and automation activities, including the potential to use emerging technology and data / analytical techniques to help our customers to work more effectively.
Develop a deep understanding of our customers, their deliverables and how data, automation and analysis can support.
Overseeing team priorities and resourcing to ensure the effective delivery of the financial systems, data and technology within the organisation.
Maintain existing systems, oversee the team in managing requests for change, supporting the team in coordinating UAT activity for software updates (updates delivered by third party supplier), support existing forecasting processes, provide intelligence to help respond to PQs and FoIs.
Communicate effectively across finance, and liaise with colleagues in HR and Commercial data roles, including contributing to product communities.
Build team capacity in data visualisation automation and analysis.
Line management responsibility for a small team, lead and develop individuals and enable them to achieve and progress in their careers.

This role is being advertised on a permanent basis. New Entrants to the Civil Service
New entrants appointed in grades AA to G6 will receive DHSCs modernised terms and conditions:
+ Annual Leave: 25 days on entry rising by one day for each completed year of service to a maximum of 30 days and pro-rata for part-time staff
+ Privilege Leave: 1 day - for the Kings birthday
+ Hours of Work: 37 hours (net) per week for full time staff in all geographical locations, including London and pro rata for part-time staff
+ Occupational Sick Pay (OSP): one month full pay/one month half pay on entry, rising by one month for each completed year of service to a maximum of five months full pay and five months half pay
+ Mobility: Mobility clause in contracts allow staff to be mobile across the Civil Service
