Full Job Description

We are looking for a Highway Engineer to join the City Area Highways team here at Norfolk County Council and take responsibility for the management of the C1 sector of the Norfolk Highways infrastructure. Reporting to the Area Manager, you'll be responsible for all aspects of the maintenance and continual improvement of your allocated sector. This will include the line management of a team of engineers and technicians in order to deliver the service targets. You'll be involved in the inspection, identification, planning and budget control of highway maintenance, and you'll also be responsible for the public liaison function for the same area. It's a broad, varied role, where you'll need to undertake responses in person, and attend site meetings as necessary. You'll provide first line response to traffic management and policy requests. And you'll initiate scheme briefs for maintenance schemes, and represent the Area Manager as required, providing support for a variety of tasks and projects including providing the winter service.

To be considered for the role, you'll need a good understanding of highway maintenance and engineering principles, and proven experience putting them into practice. You'll also need experience managing a team as well as managing third party suppliers, and proven experience of project management. In addition, strong communication skills, experience dealing directly with the public, and a positive and proactive approach are also required.
