Find your role The MHE Manager will be accountable for all aspects of Material Handling Equipment (Forklifts, etc) within Asda Logistics Services. Contract management of all MHE suppliers to provide a safe, high availability and cost-effective service for all our site operational teams. This role reports into the Senior Manager for Automation, MHE and Equipment. This role has no direct reports. Your responsibilities

  • Supplier contract management: Manage all MHE suppliers to provide the best possible service. This will include regular service reviews of their performance against agreed KPIs and SLAs. Organise and chair all review meetings. Ensure that all appropriate stakeholders are invited. Act as the primary contact within ALS for all the MHE suppliers.
  • Service to depots: Act as the point of contact for escalation for all MHE related topics to serve our depot operations teams, so that they can run their operations as efficiently as possible. Ensure that VOR (Vehicle off road) and damage to MHE is closely managed. Current ALS fleet is circa 2,200 trucks. Liaise with site teams to continuously review if they have the right fleet levels and truck types.
  • Financial management & budget setting: Ensure that spend is monitored and reported every month. All variances must be accounted for with action plans to recover any deviation. Generate the annual plan for all revenue and capital expenditure. Raise all POs and receipt invoices within the scope of MHE. Revenue P&L responsibility of circa £12m per annum.
  • Strategy: Develop and own the 5-year rolling plan for MHE including supplier selection, fuel type(s), operating model, while engaging with the wider Asda Business. This includes ownership of the standardisation & simplification agenda for MHE.
  • Procurement: Collaborate closely with the central procurement team to drive the best supplier value for MHE. Provide information for and take part in competitive tender processes.
  • Peak planning: Analyse and organise short term rental MHE for peak periods, balancing operational requirements with usage and cost management.
  • Projects: Act as the owner for all fleet replacement and any changes to infrastructure required to support MHE operations. Work with all stakeholders through the change management processes.
  • Senior management briefing & presentations: Provide updates on significant topics and lead funding requests in Board forums as required.
