IPSD-M has an opening for a Mechanical Systems - Engineering Project Team Leader located in the United Kingdom primarily working from our Peterborough site within Systems Engineering. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a diverse team that play a vital role in the future of the products that we are developing. The team are fully immersed from the start of a new program; setting requirements and technical objectives, right through to planning and delivering validation activities on engine & machine. The role involves working with our UK and global partners along with our customer groups to deliver fully validated robust powertrain solutions. The successful candidate will be accountable for delivering all aspects of mechanical system reliability & durability for their Virtual Platform Team (VPT). The scope of the role will likely include leading NPI (New Product Introduction) and/or NTI (New Technology) projects including Integrated Powertrain workstreams. As a project leader, they will need to provide both project & technical guidance to the engineers working on these projects within their virtual team. As process owners for Requirements Management, Risk Mitigation, validation planning and more - there is also a fundamental need to support the wider engineering teams. VPT leads work closely with our program team, our customer applications teams and multiple key stakeholders throughout the business. Strong communication skills will be essential. In addition to the project work, part of this role will include making a significant contribution to the team's Embed Lean Strategy. The role will include governing and supporting our team process improvement projects whilst driving projects forward using the 6 Sigma DMAIC approach. This will enable the team to Continuously Improve and be ready to support the many exciting projects we have ahead. The role is within our Peterborough Engineering & Technology centre where you will work alongside a range of system and validation specialists, with support and collaboration from Engineers across facilities in UK, US, China, India, and Japan. What You Will Do With support from experienced VPT leads within the team, the role will need you to:

  • Provide technical support to engineers within the VPT as well as working closely with the program team / PEM (Project Engineering Manager) to deliver reliable products to market.
  • Identify System Integration requirements, cascading Product Objectives through to Technical Objectives, and performing system level trade offs.
  • Collaborate with the Systems Design Architect & the Performance Architect to investigate system level trade-offs including performance, packaging & durability, utilising a combination of simulation and test data.
  • Manage internal & external stakeholder communication on program health & technical issues
  • Co-ordinate the creation of Engine System Failure Mode Effective Analysis' (FMEA), supporting risk identification, and facilitating the creation of system & component validation plans (DVP - Design Verification Plan).
  • Ensure delivery of appropriate Application & Installation (A&I) controls at an L4/L5 level.
  • Lead complex technical issue investigations through to resolution.
  • Provide support to our customers with engine system integration issues.
  • Drive accountability into the use of our proactive reliability processes.
  • Adapt processes effectively to work within boundaries of time, cost, and quality.
  • Review engine and machine data from validation tests and in field usage.
  • Liaise with application leads & customers to negotiate in field validation opportunities.
  • Seek & embrace our continuous improvement vision within the team.
  • Coach & develop people within the virtual team.

Ensures that team members are on board, unified, and moving in the same direction. Communicates both within the team and to stakeholders. Top Candidates will demonstrate some of the following skills:
  • A Systems Engineering approach to product development (within applications with construction machinery or generating sets)
  • Project management experience; delivering through others & resource planning.
  • Experience of Root Cause investigation techniques
  • Ability to interrogate complex data with experience of engines or similar applications.
  • Experience of Engine Design, Development or Simulation / planning validation and test requirements
  • Experience of DFMEA facilitation and creation
