Full Job Description
As one of a team of three senior policy officers within the policy, public affairs and campaigns team, you will be responsible for prevention policy development and oversight., You will lead on the development of our policy recommendations to improve the identification and treatment of those at high risk of type 2 diabetes, including people with gestational diabetes. This is a crucial focus in our prevention breakthrough prgramme and there is an increasing need to respond to the rise in type 2 diabetes, particularly in order to address health inequalities and ensure those with the highest risk are identified and can access prevention programmes and interventions. You will conduct policy research and analysis, stakeholder engagement, networking and horizon scanning to develop policy positions and recommendations to inform and influence others inside and outside Diabetes UK. You will support strategic planning and delivery of campaigning and influencing activity, and wider organisational work to drive the adoption of policy recommendations.
Prevention of type 2 and gestational diabetes is one of the key breakthrough areas we have identified to deliver our strategy to ensure diabetes can do no harm. Tackling health inequalities is fundamental to our mission, and improving the prevention of type 2 and gestational diabetes can make a significant impact here with these conditions being highly prevalent in those groups already at risk of poorer health outcomes due to ethnicity and poverty., You will have experience of working in a team and developing policy recommendations in a charity, NHS, Govt agency, professional body or similar organisation. And you will be able to communicate complex policy in a simple way for a variety of audiences. You will also have experience of working collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders to build relationships and achieve strategic outcomes. You will have an understanding of the policy process and how to effectively influence change, preferably in a public health or NHS context. You will be keen to make a difference and influence change particularly through reducing the impact on health outcomes by tackling health inequalities. Preferably, you will be familiar with diabetes or other long term health conditions, and the impact on the people who live with a condition. You will be analytical and able to focus on a key set of questions, working on your own initiative, but also involving others.
