Full Job Description

This role will be based on the University campus, with scope for it to be undertaken in a hybrid manner. We are also open to discussing flexible working arrangements.
Are you an experienced Health and Safety professional with expertise in radiation protection? Are you interested in providing a proactive and professional service giving proportionate advice, guidance, direction, approval, training, monitoring and auditing in relation to activities involving ionising and non-ionising radiation?
You will be the lead professional adviser and competent person to the University on the management of risks to health, safety and the environment arising from activities involving ionising radiation and non-ionising radiation.
You will advise and ensure compliance with the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 and other UK statutory requirements in respect of ionising and non-ionising radiation and associated statutory requirements under the The Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016.
Working in the Wellbeing, Safety and Health Service, which covers advice in relation to work with ionising radiation, non-ionising radiation (including lasers, microwaves, ultra-violet lights etc.) and the relevant physical agents, you will be responsible for the achievement of best practice in the area of radiation protection.
We are open to an appointment at Grade 7 level for a candidate who is working towards achieving some of the criteria and qualifications. The successful candidate will still need to demonstrate they have the core competencies.
An appointment at Grade 7 will include a structured development plan which once completed will enable the role holder to be promoted to Grade 8. The Grade 7 Radiation Protection Manager will be expected to undertake many of their duties with supervision and support from either the Head of Health and Safety or the external Radiation Protection consultants. Together with the structured development plan, this will help establish the Grade 7 Role Holder's skills and experience in order that they will be eventually ready to progress to the full independent role at Grade 8.
