Full Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Business Manager to support Research & Development to support our post-award R&D Finance Team at Barts Health NHS Trust.
The post holder will be an experienced team leader, with substantial experience of managing staff, working with the JRMO R&D Finance Team to support and develop the workforce, with responsibility for the oversight and management of the operational aspects of research financial administration and the provision of a first-class service to our research community in the Trust, Queen Mary University of London (academic partner) and other research organisations.
The post holder line manages three Band 7 Accounts Managers and their teams and works closely with the senior leadership team in R&D to oversee the effective operation of Research & Development.
Barts Health R&D operations - taking ownership for managing the daily business of hospital and group based research functions, dealing with unplanned events that arise and acting as the 'executing agent' for resolving issues. The post holder is also a member of the senior leadership team across the Joint Research Management Office.
Proposed interview date: 20th August 2024, Finance - Managing the Finance leads to ensure the finance functions for R&D, with an income of £30m p.a are managed effectively, in line with the Trust's SFIs.
Risk Management - managing the risk register relating to finance and business development for the R&D, ensuring that risks are updated on datix, are managed appropriately and escalated as required The post holder is also required to present the risk register for approval to the R&D SMT on a monthly basis.
Secretariat and Committee support - to provide secretariat and reports for R&D Finance working groups, Hospital and Trust Research Board, ensuring that all reports are submitted on time and that an action log and minutes are taken for each meeting, for sign off by the Chair.
Recruitment and Staffing- Ensuring that the appointment of core JRMO/R&D staff and research staff across the Trust is managed in line with agreed recruitment procedures and meets our policies for equality and inclusion.
Managing R&D's staffing establishment to ensure that all new posts and vacancies are in line with budget and that R2Rs and e forms are raised in line with Trust policies and procedures.
Induction - taking overall responsibility for the local Induction of finance and business development staff in R&D, working with wider R&D leadership team to ensure consistency across all R&D staff, including providing coaching and advice to new staff as required.
