Full Job Description

A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen to join Suffolk County Council (SCC) Skills Team to play a leading role in maximising the positive value from the significant investment and development expected in the county. You will lead on the work required to develop and establish the three funding programmes that will collectively help local residents to access skills and employment opportunities and benefits resulting from the construction of Sizewell C (SZC) nuclear power station. You will work closely with several teams across SCC (including skills, economic development and planning), with SZC and with potential beneficiaries of the funds.
- Are you interested in supporting the local area to make the most of the significant infrastructure development being taken forward in Suffolk over the next few years?
- Do you have experience of working in a role dealing with the management of grant funding programmes?
We anticipate this role will be based from Endeavour House Ipswich but will involve work across the county, with occasional travel required beyond Suffolk, as well as hybrid working, for up to 9 months subject to funding received by SCC as a result of the continued development of the Sizewell C Power Station.

Your role and responsibilities
The primary purpose of this role is to develop and fully establish the SZC skills funds programme that will ensure socio-economic benefits from the SZC project are maximised, especially for those vulnerable or disadvantaged residents with barriers to education and employment.
You will work within a small supportive team that will:
- engage with several SCC service areas including skills, economic development and planning as well as our legal, communications and procurement teams
- analyse available labour market information and liaise with developers to identify synergies between the opportunity made available by different infrastructure projects
- work directly with the SZC project and other key stakeholders to plan skills investments and activity that deliver regional benefits and address set SZC requirements
- work alongside colleges, training providers and other key stakeholders as part of a Suffolk approach

You will need
- Our ideal candidate will have experience of working at a management level in partnership with multiple organisations such as Government departments, colleges, training providers and employers or developers, ideally across the construction or energy industry.
- We hope you'll be passionate about maximising regional value and creating a legacy
- Understanding and having experience of what is required to establish funding programmes and the allocation of grants will be key to success in this role
You can view a full list of requirements in the Job and Person Profile (docx). If you believe you can succeed in this role, apply. Even if you don't meet all requirements, still apply. We would appreciate the opportunity to consider your application.

The team
The SCC Skills Team exists to support economic growth and help increase social mobility in Suffolk and the surrounding region by leading, delivering and contributing to a number of strategic skills and employment programmes across the region.
