Full Job Description

The Microbiology Department is looking for registered Biomedical Scientists to perform a comprehensive range of analyses / investigations. The successful applicant will take appropriate action on the results obtained, utilise professional knowledge and skills to provide advice and guidance to service users. and maintain highly complex analytical equipment in optimum operational condition and to utilise necessary interpersonal skills to ensure effective liaison with service users and to provide the best care for the patient.

The successful candidate will develop competence and confidence in order to perform these procedures with a minimum of supervision., Use specialist knowledge across a range of procedures, authorise test results integrating and initiating further tests as appropriate.

Take responsibility for finishing, checking, validating and authorising the work of colleagues as necessary.

Check validity and reliability of analytical processes, maintaining and monitoring satisfactory performance by internal quality control and external quality assessment.

Ensure that external QA program results are collated and transmitted to organisers.

Manipulation of materials and objects such as microscopes, and pipettes for accurate and reliable determination of results and diagnosis.

Set up and check instrumentation for correct operation, troubleshooting and correcting faults.

Maintain instrument, QC and reagent logs and utilise resources cost effectively.

Monitor fridges, freezer alarms and incubators and react to alarm / failure situations.
