Do you enjoy getting out and about and are you good at dealing with people within a regulatory environment, getting things done and organising your own workload on a day-to-day basis? A great opportunity has arisen for a Street Works Permit Inspector to assist with the effective implementation and delivery of the Street Works Permit Scheme, which governs all street and road works carried out in the highway across the Borough.

Based within the Highways & Waste Service, you will be part of a team of Permit Support Officers and Street Works Inspectors. Your main role will be undertaking inspections of street and road works ensuring they are compliant with our Road & Street Works Permit Scheme and relevant legislation, statutory guidance and codes of practice.

You are likely to have previous experience within a relevant highway discipline, together with experience of working with customers, clients and partners. Previous experience of highway network management, street works coordination or working within a utility company/local authority would be an advantage. You will have daily contact and involvement with public and private sector organisations including utility companies, members of the public, elected members and other council colleagues. Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills are therefore essential, together with the ability to act with confidence in a range of situations and an ability to work flexibly and at pace., It is essential that you have good IT and keyboard skills in relation to data entry. You should also have knowledge of the New Roads & Street Works Act 1991 and Traffic Management Act 2004, and have experience using computers and Windows based operating systems including Microsoft Office and Android products. You should have at least five GCSE's or equivalent including English Language and Maths, and a valid licence to drive cars in the UK. You will be required to work independently and you will need to prioritise work, as well as coordinate a variety of tasks in a clear and logical way to meet deadlines. There will on occasion be a need to work outside standard office hours, although there will be some flexibility.

You'll be paid a competitive salary plus additional allowances where relevant.
