Full Job Description

In this fulfilling position, you will provide high-quality, practical, and emotional support to individuals aged 18+ in Surrey who have been bereaved by suicide. You will also offer referrals and signposting for younger people under 18. Your role includes:

  • Delivering 1:1 psycho-social and practical support through various mediums (face-to-face, telephone, digital).
  • Supporting individuals with practicalities such as dealing with police, funerals, and media, as well as accompanying them to inquests when needed.
  • Running awareness sessions and delivering PABBS-standard training workshops to health and social care professionals.
  • Maintaining professional boundaries while fostering positive relationships with service users and stakeholders.
  • Promoting the service at community events and forums.
  • This field-based role offers flexibility to work across Surrey and to cover absences or workload fluctuations. Work hours are primarily weekdays, with support available until 8pm., Our work to achieve this is guided by seven core values:

  • We're seeking a Suicide Bereavement Worker to join our Surrey Support After Suicide Service, part of Rethink Mental Illness. If you're driven to deliver compassionate, person-centred support and want to be part of a peer-led team committed to helping individuals navigate their bereavement journey, we'd love to hear from you.,
  • Experience in supporting individuals bereaved by suicide, or with experience in carer or bereavement support services.
  • Personal experience of bereavement by suicide (minimum three years elapsed).
  • Emotional resilience and the ability to manage emotionally demanding situations.
  • Strong organisational, interpersonal, and IT skills, alongside an NVQ 3 / QCF Diploma in Health & Social Care or a related subject.
  • The ability to deliver training workshops and engage with diverse communities., Preferred qualifications include trauma-informed training and experience with suicide prevention programs such as ASIST or SafeTalk.
