Full Job Description

The Horniman Museum and Gardens is a unique attraction in south east London where world cultures and the natural world are brought together for everyone to enjoy. The Museum holds internationally important collections of anthropology and musical instruments, as well as a popular natural history gallery and Aquarium. The 16 acres of beautiful Gardens feature a tropical Butterfly House and offer stunning views across London. The Horniman is the holder of the prestigious Art Fund Museum of the Year 2022.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, hands-on Collections Information Assistant to help us improve the records and documentation relating to our museum objects and archive.
Your main responsibility will be to create and improve records on the Horniman's database, Mimsy XG. You will have an enthusiasm for good data, an understanding of what it can do, and experience of creating and managing it. You will also be involved with hands-on tasks such as object packing, marking and movement.
Experience of working in a museum is not essential, but an interest in museums and their collections is. The Horniman's current focus is Nature + Love, a project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund to redisplay our Natural history Collections, so a passion for natural science would be ideal.
Essential skills for this post include the ability to work methodically and to deadlines while maintaining high standards, and to be flexible in working as part of a team or independently.
The closing date for completed applications is on 11 November 2024.
Interviews will be held on 10 December 2024.
