Full Job Description

When you join us as a Team Leader for our Heat Networks team, you'll lead a team of enforcement officers and technical experts, be responsible for creating and implementing comprehensive operational plans, and be at the heart of our work to shape a sustainable energy future for the country. Contributing directly to the reduction of carbon emissions, the protection of consumers and the promotion of a thriving energy market, you'll ensure compliance with energy regulations and play a vital role in building a cleaner, more equitable and resilient energy landscape for future generations.
Driving the transition to net zero by developing and implementing technical standards and regulations that protect consumers and ensure accurate heat metering, you'll lead enforcement activities that guarantee industry compliance with legal requirements, and provide advice that supports business improvements. Increasing your knowledge with a view to optimising regulatory strategy and empowering your teams, we'll expect you to foster collaboration throughout the OPSS to ensure we meet policy needs and maintain consistent practices. You'll also respond to enquiries, offer advice to government, support the development of new legislation and undertake a full range of enforcement activities that protect the interests of consumers.

With a degree or its equivalent in engineering or a related field, you'll be capable of quickly acquiring and applying the latest technical knowledge, with a particular focus on metering systems. Your strong analytical skills will allow you to interpret complex data, identify trends and inform decision making, while your excellent interpersonal skills will see you building positive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
A strategic thinker with the ability to develop and implement affective plans, adapt to changing priorities and deliver results while under pressure, you'll be skilled at communicating complex information to technical and non-technical audiences. An inspirational and motivating team leader, and ready to collaborate with your colleagues to achieve shared goals, any experience of delivering technical regulations or operational projects in the utilities sector would be a plus. In addition, you should be prepared to travel occasionally to sites throughout Great Britain.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) is part of the Department for Business and Trade, and exists to make regulation work to deliver real world impact. Regulation is a powerful Government tool to address market failures, influence behaviour and promote positive action, and can be an enabler of growth, innovation and efficiency. Our primary purpose is to protect people and places from product-related harm, ensuring consumers and businesses can buy and sell products with confidence.
