Full Job Description

We are seeking an exceptional leader with a proven track record in motivating, inspiring, and developing teams, and driving the continuous improvement of Pharmacy services. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in delivering high-quality Pharmacy services and the ability to represent The ICP and the Trust at all levels. You should have a clear vision for the future of Pharmacy services across all our sites and understand how this integrates within our Surrey Heartlands ICS and primary care partners.

This is an exciting time for our Pharmacy department as we are advancing with a new modular build Aseptics unit, which will require significant leadership to install, implement, and deliver aseptic medications. Additionally, the organisation is committed to delivering a large programme of work related to ward configuration, with Pharmacy playing an integral role in its success. Furthermore, changes to qualifications for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians will need to be embedded within the department.

Over the past five years, the Trust has made significant investments in the Pharmacy department, including the development of 7-day Pharmacy services, refurbishment of the dispensary and stores, and the installation of a new dispensing robot., The ICP Chief Pharmacist is a key senior role responsible for all aspects of Medicines Management and Medicines Optimisation, including risk management and other Clinical Governance matters, as well as the clinical and strategic development of Pharmacy services. Reporting to the Associate Director of Operations for Diagnostic and Clinical Support Services, and with professional accountability to the Medical Director and Clinical Director of Pharmacy for Surrey Heartlands, you will provide expert clinical, professional, and technical leadership and direction for the delivery of comprehensive Pharmaceutical services to patients and staff. You will also lead the development of Pharmacy practice.

You will join a stable, well-respected, and supportive acute Pharmacy team of over 135 staff. Our Pharmacy service provides extensive Pharmaceutical support to a wide range of specialist clinical services within the Trust, including community services. Comprehensive, well-established clinical Pharmacy services support all aspects of medicines optimisation from admission through to primary care across all clinical Directorates and specialties. The Pharmacy also leads the Trust's Medication Safety and Anti-microbial Stewardship programmes. The Trust has successfully implemented a fully digital system, with the next steps involving the implementation of electronic prescribing for out-patients and improving reporting on medicines usage.

Recognising that our 5000 colleagues are our greatest strength, we offer a comprehensive health and wellbeing program along with a commitment to developing and advancing your career. Our diverse and welcoming Royal Surrey family will ensure you that you feel valued from your initial interview through your entire tenure.

We are clinically led and provide joined up care by bridging the gap between hospital and community services alongside regional specialist cancer care. Our main acute hospital site is in Guildford with community hospital sites at Milford, Haslemere and Cranleigh. We provide adult community health services in homes across Guildford and Waverley.

We are proud of our achievements and we are investing in our colleagues through our commitment to supporting professional development as well as investing more than £45 million in our physical environment and new equipment in the next few years.
