Full Job Description

Islington has some of the richest social history in all of London. We're looking for a Museum and Archive Manager to help us and our residents bring this history to life. Whatever your niche historical interest may be, we've probably got it covered: Lenin, LGBTQ+, cattle markets, human rights campaigners, New Rivers, ancient wells, prisons, performers, pantomime heroes. In our collections you'll find material on Arsenal, modernist housing, community activism and art both highbrow and low. If this has got you interested - read on - this might be the job for you.

We're looking for a creative, confident and experienced museum or archive professional to manager Islington Museum and Islington Archives. You will possess a post-graduate qualification in a relevant subject and have comprehensive knowledge of working in a heritage environment. You will also have a creative and pro-active approach to using our collections and heritage to enrich residents' lives, building community wellbeing, creating a shared inclusive local identity, and promoting lifelong learning for all. You will be a team player and be confident in building relationships with colleagues, external partners and community representatives.

Islington is a place rich with diversity and culture. As a council our sense of purpose couldn't be clearer: we serve. It's in the logo. We are committed to challenging inequality in the borough and as one of the largest employers we know that to look after the place and the planet, we have to look after our people. Together we can change the future.

We are determined to create a more equal Islington, where everyone who lives here has an equal chance to thrive.

To do this, everyone who works at Islington Council lives by a set of values which guide us in everything that we do: collaborative, ambitious, resourceful, and empowering. They spell out 'CARE', which is what we think public service is all about.

Watch our video to hear more about our mission and how you can help us achieve it from the Leader of the Council, Cllr Kaya Comer-Schwartz.
