Full Job Description

The Service Operations Team comprises a Manager, a Shift Supervisor and 25 shift working Operations staff, split into 5, 24x7 shifts, each having a Shift Leader, Deputy and 3 operators. The team look after all Bank systems and run on a variety of platforms (HP NonStop (Tandems), Redhat Linux, Windows, Cisco UCS and EMC platforms, Pure and others). All of which make the Bank a hugely rewarding place to work., The primary role of the Technology Operations Shift Leader is to manage the team on shift and monitor the operation of the Bank's computer systems, services and applications. The role also involves being the front-line support for a multiple core systems and contacting support teams when necessary. There will be elements of running certain functions out of hours for example, MIM and Service Desk. This is a people management role. You will be responsible for day to day management of the team and for defining roles and responsibilities. Develop your team by effectively sharing information, mentoring, and communicating a clear vision. This will ensure your staff is productive, engaged, and motivated to achieve the area's goals. This will include setting clear goals and smart stretching objectives that are aligned to those of the team, division and directorate. You will also be responsible for managing all staff-related matters that may arise including performance, absence and sickness. You will join and run one of the 5 shifts and will be expected to work on the current shift pattern (12 hour, 24x7 shifts over a 5 week period covering days, nights and rest days), reporting directly to the Data Centre (DC) Ops Team Manager. (This includes weekends and Bank Holidays). All Operators work on a rota basis, at two of the Bank's Data Centre Sites based in London and Debden, there is also the option to work from home by agreement with the relevant Manager. Number of direct reports: 4 Role Requirements The role will include:

  • Ensuring the shift team understands business priorities related to the Data Centres and knows key Support and Business contacts.
  • Owning on-site issues, keeping the team informed, and collaborating with the Service Desk and Major Incident Management to resolve problems. You may also represent Operations in meetings.
  • Maintaining clear and up-to-date documentation for the Data Centre (DC) Operations team.
  • Overseeing the upkeep of the Bank's Data Centres, ensuring adherence to the Code of Conduct.
  • Planning and leading training for new staff.
  • Completing interim and annual assessments on schedule.
  • Managing leave and shift coverage to ensure adequate staffing.
  • Working towards Operational Level Agreements and performance targets., Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Demonstrated experience working within small, close-knit teams, showcasing a strong teamwork ethic.
  • Proven track record of leading a high-performing team effectively.
  • Familiarity with PRS procedures and package is required.
  • Capable of resolving staff and technical issues while leading a team.
  • Desirable Criteria Experience of any of the following platforms would be an advantage, but are not essential as full training will be given:
  • HP NonStop (Tandem) hardware and basic utilities (FUP, Spooler, TMMP, RDF, TACL, SQL, Viewpoint) and the 3rd party monitoring tools Multibatch and Reflex.
  • Red Hat Linux basic operator commands and utilities.

    We encourage flexible working, part time working and job share arrangements. Part time salary and benefits will be on a pro-rated basis as appropriate.
  • We offer a salary as follows: London circa £59,905 - £69,120. In addition, we also offer a comprehensive benefits package as detailed below:
  • A non-contributory, career average pension giving you a guaranteed retirement benefit of 1/95th of your annual salary for every year worked. There is the option to increase your pension (to 1/50th) or decrease (to 1/120th) in exchange for salary through our flexible benefits programme each year.
