Full Job Description

The Council's Strategic Housing Service is looking to recruit a Temporary Accommodation Welfare Officer to work as part of our team supporting homeless households who are placed in temporary accommodation.

This is a new role is within the Strategic Housing Service's Temporary Accommodation team, with responsibility for ensuring families and single people who have experienced homelessness are able to maximise their incomes and manage their financial responsibilities whilst living in temporary accommodation.

Applicants should have an excellent knowledge and experience of relevant welfare benefits in particular Housing Benefit, Local Housing Allowance and Universal Credit. They should also be able to work effectively with a wide range of people including those with complex needs in stressful circumstances.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain insight and experience of operational and strategic housing issues as well as housing management.

The successful applicant will be required to work 37 hours per week, normally be based at the Civic Centre but may be required to travel and / or work from other locations as required with some flexibility.
