Full Job Description
To lead on and develop the clinical teaching provision of the school, delivering high-quality research-led clinical teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. To pursue excellence in clinical practice, teaching and pedagogy and to inspire others to do the same. Leadership
- To provide academic and clinical leadership effectively and efficiently by managing, leading and motivating staff to deliver high quality clinical practice and teaching, in a culture of continuous improvement and collaborative working.
- To be involved in School level strategic planning of teaching and clinics and contribute to wider strategic planning processes of the School and the University.
- To lead on and undertake administrative duties associated with the school's education provision.
- To engage effectively with industrial, commercial, and public sector organisations, professional institutions, other academic institutions etc., regionally and nationally to raise awareness of the school's profile, to cultivate strategically valuable alliances, and to pursue opportunities for collaboration across a range of activities. These activities are expected to contribute to the school's educational provision for students and the enhancement of its regional, national, and international profile.
- To provide opportunities for staff development aimed at improving skills and knowledge in learning and teaching pedagogy, assessment, and feedback.
- On behalf of the school, manage projects including the organisation of external activities. Teaching
- To supervise optometrists on placement in the NHS Wales University Eye Care Centre and contribute to modules at postgraduate level. To create interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst students. Independently design, develop and deliver a range of innovative and appropriate teaching techniques, engage in pedagogic and clinical research and scholarly activities.
- To co-ordinate a programme of evaluation, and research to assess the quality and impact of teaching and learning, with priority on delivering through the student voice an excellent student experience and, to make a significant contribution to the international development of such teaching.
- To carry out other forms of scholarship including work associated with assessments, setting and marking assessments and providing constructive feedback to students in a timely manner, administration, participation in committee work.
- To supervise and lead on the co-ordination work of undergraduate and postgraduate students including supervision in clinics and placements and co supervision of student projects.
- Act as a personal tutor, providing support and guidance to students, building, and establishing trust. Scholarship
- To undertake and lead educational research, pedagogical evaluation and scholarly activity, leading to publications in high quality professional and scholarly journals.
- To participate in national and international conferences, seminars and other academic and professional forums to disseminate the results of one's own scholarship. General Duties
- To undertake and lead operational administrative responsibilities, as required by Head of School or nominee.

The School of Optometry and Vision Sciences, Cardiff University has worked with Health Boards to deliver a 'teach and treat clinic in Holywell Hospital. We are seeking motivated and forward-thinking optometrists to work as part time Senior Lecturers in the clinic to provide high quality clinical practice and teaching. We'd like to hear from you if you are an optometrist who is GOC registered with a Diploma in Glaucoma and a Diploma in Therapeutic Prescribing (Independent Prescribing) or a Diploma in Therapeutic Prescribing (Independent Prescribing) or a Higher Certificate in Medical Retina., 1. GOC registration. You will be expected to maintain CET points to ensure continued GOC registration, and to uphold membership of an NHS Health Board (or equivalent) to practice as an Optometrist in the Cardiff University and/or associated patient-facing clinics. 2. A Diploma in Therapeutic Prescribing (Independent Prescribing) Knowledge, Skills and Experience 3. Substantial clinical supervision and teaching experience at undergraduate/postgraduate level, demonstrating innovation. 4. Established national and growing international reputation within academic and/or clinical domain. 5. Proven experience of delivering and developing high quality IP services for at least 2 years. Pastoral, Communication and Team Working 6. A proven record of clinical or academic leadership. 7. A dependable individual, who is pro-active, adaptable, with excellent people management skills and a willingness to contribute positively to the leadership of the school. The ability to present complex and conceptual ideas clearly and confidently to others using high level skills and a range of media. 8. The ability to provide appropriate pastoral support to students, appreciate the needs of individual students and their circumstances and to act as a personal tutor. 9. Ability to act as clinic and/or module leader and co-ordinate with others to ensure student needs and expectations are met. Other 10. Proven ability to demonstrate creativity, innovation and teamworking., 1. Evidence of collaborations with the optometry sector. 2. Proven ability to adapt to the changing requirements of clinical practice and/or the Higher Education community. 3. Evidence of ability to participate in and develop both internal and external networks and utilise them to enhance the teaching and research activities of the school.
